Josef Kostner (born August 11, 1933 in Ortisei in Val Gardena ; † July 10, 2017 ) was a sculptor and poet from Val Gardena in the Ladin language .

Live and act

Kostner attended the art school in Ortisei under Raimund Mureda and Rudolf Moroder-Rudolfine. From 1960 to 1980 he was professor of sculpture at the art schools in Selva and Ortisei. A peculiarity of his work are sculptures cast in concrete.

In the 1950s he took part in the Ruscel group, which wanted to break new ground in traditional Val Gardena wood carving . He was a member of the South Tyrolean Artists Association .

As a local researcher he published four topographical maps with the Val Gardena place names.
