Monte Pana or Pana-Alm ( Ladin Monte Pana ) is a high plateau in the southern part of the municipality of St. Christina in Val Gardena ( South Tyrol ). This area extends from 1600 to 1800  m above sea ​​level . From the center of St. Christina's Monte Pana can be reached with a chair lift or via a road. The high plateau is in front of the Mont de Sëura in the Langkofel group ( Langkofel , Plattkofel ) to the south . In the west it borders on Europe's largest high plateau, the Alpe di Siusi and the Jenderbach. To the north you can see the Geisler group . In the east, Monte Pana borders the Ampezan brook and further on to the Saslong World Cup slope.

winter

In winter, Monte Pana is an important starting point for skiers, with connections to the Alpe di Siusi and the Sellaronda . In 2006 a new ski jump was opened, which offers the local ski club very good training opportunities. In 2007 the cross-country skiing center St. Christina , the largest in Val Gardena, was opened on Monte Pana. The slopes are a total of 30 km long and there are 3 different levels of difficulty.

summer

In summer Monte Pana is an idyllic place with a wonderful view of the Sella massif to the east and the Langkofel group to the south . Many hikes start from Monte Pana.

  • The Hotel Monte Pana and the adjacent chapel by the architect Franz Baumann - an example (with a new extension) of modern Alpine architecture from the 1930s.
  • The mountain chapel by the architect Franz Baumann with a fresco of St. Bernard by Albert Stolz (1936) and a wood-carved cross by Vinzenz Peristi .
  • The sundial : a spherical equatorial sundial that shows the true local time (WOZ) and Central European time ( CET ) not only for St. Christina, but also for 60 other cities .
