Florutz ( Fersentalerisch : Vlarötz , Italian : Fierozzo ) is an Italian municipality in the Fersental in the province of Trento . The community has 487 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), most of whom speak Fersentalerisch , a Bavarian dialect.
geography
The community is made up of several scattered settlements that lie on the orographic left side of the Fersental valley. It covers an area of 17.94 km², of which 1181.59 hectares are arable land, 1042.42 hectares are forests and 36.42 hectares are unproductive high mountain areas. The municipality is divided into three similar regions: Auserpèrg or Monte di Fuori , Mitterpèrg or Monte di Mezzo and Inderpèrg or Monte di Dentro . The seat of the municipality is in Mitterpèrg, at 1127 m slm in the district of Innervlarötz (it. San Felice ), which together with Ausservlarötz (it. San Francesco ) in Auserperg form the two fractions of the municipality.
The neighboring communities are Palai im Fersental in the north, Sant'Orsola Terme in the west, Gereut in the south, and Roncegno and Torcegno in the east.
Multilingualism in school
Since 1918, Italian was the only language of instruction in schools in the Fersental. With the recognition as a minority language, both the heel-tongue and the written German regained importance. In the elementary school in Florutz, dialect has been offered as a compulsory subject from the first grade for several years. In addition, this is the only school in Trentino to date that has two teaching languages - initially on a trial basis: Italian and German. A study in 2009 showed that children with knowledge of the dialect had considerable advantages in German-language lessons over previous monolingual Italian classmates.
