Avio is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 4119 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the south of the autonomous province of Trento in the Trentino-Alto Adige region .
geography
Avio is about 40 km south of Trento in Vallagarina on the Adige , as the lower section of the Adige Valley is also called. The municipality borders the province of Verona ( Veneto ). Neighboring municipalities are the municipalities of Ala and Brentonico , which belong to the province of Trento, and the Veronese municipalities of Brentino Belluno , Dolcè , Ferrara di Monte Baldo , Malcesine and Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo . The old town center of the Sabbionara district, criss-crossed by narrow streets, is dominated by the ruins of Castel Sabbionara from the 11th century, which was greatly expanded in the 13th century.
Administrative division
The municipality of Avio still includes the six fractions : Borghetto, Mama, Masi, Sabbionara, Vò Destro and Vò Sinistro. The latter is the only fraction on the orographically left side of the Adige Valley.
