Tschengls ( 950  m slm ) is a fraction of the municipality of Laas in South Tyrol . The rural village has 500 inhabitants. It is located in Vinschgau on the orographic right , southern side of the Adige Valley . The town center lies on a small alluvial cone below the slopes of the Nördersberg , which are protected in the Stilfserjoch National Park and overlooked by the Tschenglser high wall .

Tschengls was first mentioned in 1149 as "Sengilis". The spelling of Tschengl has only been handed down since 1910 . Possibly the name comes from the Latin word scandula ( Eng . "Shingle"), which refers to the place where shingles were made.

Worth mentioning in Tschengls are the parish church of the Birth of Mary , which was built around 1499, its side chapel, the church of St. Ottilia and the two castles Tschenglsburg and Tschenglsberg .
