Harald Witwer (born March 31, 1977 in Bludenz ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Witwer is mayor of the municipality of Thuringia and has been a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament since May 9, 2018 .

Harald Witwer studied political science and economics and then worked as a press officer for the state parliament club of the ÖVP Vorarlberg in the Vorarlberg state parliament. Widwer was politically active for the first time in the Young People's Party . From 2000 he was a substitute member of the municipal council in Thuringia, and in 2005 he was elected a full municipal council member. In the municipal council and mayoral elections in 2010 , Witwer ran as the top candidate on the list “Harald Witwer - List Thuringia” in his home municipality against the previous mayor, Berno Witwer, whom he was finally able to beat in the runoff election with 56.2% of the votes. Since then, Witwer has been working full-time as Mayor of Thuringia, where he was confirmed in office in 2015 in the direct mayor election in the first ballot with 65.87% of the votes. In June 2017, Harald Witwer, who had been the district chairman of the ÖAAB in the Bludenz district since 2015 , was nominated to succeed Edgar Mayer at the head of the ÖAAB Vorarlberg. He has been the elected chairman of the ÖAAB Vorarlberg since spring 2018.

In the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2014 , Harald Witwer ran in the state electoral district of Bludenz on the 6th place on the ÖVP list. After Christian Gantner was appointed to the state council in April 2018, Harald Witwer moved up to the state parliament as the next on the list for Gantner by renouncing the former vice-president of the state parliament, Heinz Peter Ritter . He was sworn in as a member for the first time in the state parliament session on May 9, 2018. In the state parliament he was area spokesman for the ÖVP state parliament club for the topics of labor and labor market, energy, water management and waste management. On November 20, 2019, after the 2019 state elections, he was sworn in again as a substitute for Regional Councilor Gantner in the Vorarlberg state parliament.
