Andrea Kaufmann (born March 19, 1969 in Dornbirn ; born Andrea Blenk ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) from Vorarlberg . From 2009 to 2013 she was a member of the Vorarlberg provincial government as regional councilor and is currently the mayor of the city of Dornbirn.

education and profession

Andrea Kaufmann attended the college for business professions in Rankweil , where she also did her Matura . In 1988 she began studying commercial science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, and in 1989 she began studying economics at the University of Konstanz . From 2000 to 2002, Kaufmann also attended the university course for political education in Schloss Hofen . The economist is currently working on her doctorate in political science at the University of Innsbruck .

From 1994 to 1998 he was employed in the controlling department at Raiffeisenbank Bludenz.

Political career

Andrea Kaufmann gained her first political experience in the early 1990s at the JVP Dornbirn. She was then elected to the state and federal executive boards of the JVP. Since 2003, Kaufmann has been the regional chairman of the Austrian Workers' Union . Before moving into state politics, the Dornbirn native worked in her hometown as a city councilor for culture, family and education. After the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2009 , which resulted in an ÖVP sole government, Andrea Kaufmann was elected by the Vorarlberg state parliament on October 14, 2009 as state councilor in the Sausgruber IV government cabinet . As a result, she was responsible for the departments of culture, science and student funding, continuing education, archiving and library systems, and music schools.

On May 20, 2011, she was elected deputy to the then ÖVP federal party leader Michael Spindelegger at the federal party conference in Innsbruck . After Rainer Gögele resigned as regional councilor, Andrea Kaufmann took over the departments of building construction, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, cable cars and elevator technology, which had previously been managed by Gögele, while the two departments of health and disability assistance, which had also been taken over by Gögele, were transferred to the new regional councilor Christian Bernhard were.

In May 2013 she resigned from the position of regional councilor in order to become the first woman mayor of her hometown Dornbirn. She was elected to this office on May 29, 2013 by the Dornbirn city council. In the first direct mayor election of her term of office, Andrea Kaufmann was confirmed in office on March 15, 2015 by the Dornbirn population with 51.29% of the votes in the first ballot.

Private life

Kaufmann is the daughter of long-time member of the National Council, Wolfgang Blenk . She is married, mother of two daughters and two sons, and lives with her family in Dornbirn.
