Austrian workers' union
The Austrian Workers' Union ( ÖAAB , formerly the Austrian Workers' Union ) is the workers' organization of the Austrian People's Party ( ÖVP ). Due to the alliance structure of the ÖVP, all members of the ÖAAB are also members of the ÖVP.
Political work
After the senior citizens' union, the ÖAAB is the ÖVP union with the most members. In relation to the number of its members, however, it is underrepresented in their leadership positions, as a political balance is maintained within the party with the other associations of the ÖVP.
The ÖAAB is a group within the Chamber of Labor , the legal representation of employees. In Vorarlberg and Tyrol , the ÖAAB provides the President of the Chamber of Labor.
The Christian Trade Union Party (FCG), a parliamentary group within the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions, is close to the ÖAAB . List communities of ÖAAB and FCG often run for works council elections.
founding
The ÖAAB was founded on April 14, 1945 in Vienna . The first federal chairman was Lois Weinberger . Leopold Kunschak , who founded the Christian Social Workers' Association in 1892 and was one of the leading figures in the Christian trade unions as its chairman until 1934 , had previously rejected the chairmanship .
The ÖAAB is older than the ÖVP. The ÖAAB was one of the driving forces behind its establishment, both Weinberger and Kunschak were founding members of the ÖVP.
With the Vienna Program in 1946, the ÖAAB's first basic program was adopted. This called for professional and economic self-management. This self-management should find its expression in a “people of owners” , emphasizing personal property of employees and employees should be involved in companies.
