Werner Amon

Werner Amon (born May 28, 1969 in Graz ) is a politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and ombudsman . From September 2016 to May 2017 he was General Secretary of the ÖVP and from November 1994 to June 2019, with interruptions, a member of the National Council . On 1 July 2019 he was Federal President of barking Alexander Van as ombudsman sworn in .

education and profession

Werner Amon went to Graz, Knittelfeld and Judenburg to school and graduated after Unterstufen- school , the business school from. In his second education , he attended the course for intercultural learning at Thames Valley University in London and the university course for advertising and sales at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (degree: Academic Advertising and Marketing Manager). In 2000 he completed an Executive MBA from California State University in cooperation with IMADEC in Vienna with a Master of Business Administration (MBA; US degree). In 2003 he received a further degree as a Master of Business Administration (Austrian / European degree) at the then accredited private university IMADEC in cooperation with the University of Texas, Austin.

Professionally, he was editor-in-chief of the youth magazine orizont , employee of the WIFI of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce , lecturer at the Handelsakademie Judenburg and as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences for Marketing Graz . From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the board of the pension insurance company and from 2009 to 2011 a member of the board and the administrative committee of the general accident insurance company (AUVA). Amon was a member of the supervisory board of direktanlage.at AG in Salzburg from 2004 to September 2017 - today Hellobank BNP Paribas Austria AG. Since March 2018 he has been employed by ILAG (Industrieliegenschaftenverwaltung AG) in Vienna.

Political offices

Werner Amon was a student representative during his school days and ultimately the Austrian national school spokesman . From 1993 to 2001 he was federal chairman of the young ÖVP . From 1993 to 2017 he was a member of the federal party executive committee of the ÖVP and from 2003 to 2009 General Secretary of the ÖAAB . He has been the ÖVP chairman of the ÖVP district organization in Deutschlandsberg since October 2015 .

Werner Amon was since the beginning of the XIX. Legislative period on November 7, 1994 member of the Austrian National Council . He left this on June 30, 2019 to become an Ombudsman. From 1994 to 2000 he was the ÖVP spokesman for youth, development cooperation and human rights. From 2000 he was ÖVP education spokesman, 2007-2008 social spokesman, then again education spokesman until 2012. In 2012 and 2013 he was the ÖVP's European and foreign policy spokesman. From 2013 he was division spokesman for home affairs and security, from 2008 chairman of the standing committee for the protection of the constitution and the fight against terrorism. Amon was deputy chairman of the committee for internal affairs and from 2008 to 2013 chairman of the ARGE of ÖAAB mandatars and club chairman deputy of the ÖVP parliamentary club. During his time as a member of the National Council, he was also president of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and head of the ÖVP delegation. From January 2018 he was Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Amon took part in the following committees of inquiry : Euroteam, banks, “spies” (as group leader) and corruption investigation committee (as group leader). He was also in the "small committee of inquiry" of the RH subcommittee on the BAWAG faction leader and chairman and ÖVP faction leader of the permanent subcommittee that investigated the Kampusch cause.

On September 4, 2016, Werner Amon took over from Peter McDonald as General Secretary of the Austrian People's Party. He held this office until he was replaced by Elisabeth Köstinger in May 2017 .

On June 6, 2019, Amon was proposed as the successor to Gertrude Brinek for the term of office beginning on July 1, 2019 by the Main Committee of the National Council as Ombudsman and was elected by the National Council on June 13, 2019. Daniela List took over his seat on the National Council .

Other offices

Amon is President of the Austro-South Korean Society and the Austro-South Korean Parliamentary Friendship Group.

He is also the chairman of the Friends of Taiwan Group . Amon is also chairman of the Styrian Fire Brigade Museum Association .
