Wolfgang Rümmele
Wolfgang Rümmele (* 25. October 1946 in Dornbirn , † 7. May 2019 ibid ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 1999 to 2013 he was mayor of the city of Dornbirn.
education and profession
Rümmele graduated from the Bundesgymnasium Dornbirn with the Matura and then studied forestry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna . In 1970 he finished his studies with the academic degree Dipl.-Ing. As a result, Rümmele worked from 1971 to the end of March 1999 as a teacher of biology and geography at the Bundesgymnasium Dornbirn, in 1974 he was given the professional title of professor . He was also a member of KMV Siegberg Dornbirn (VMCV) and KHV Babenberg Vienna ( ÖCV ).
After leaving politics, Wolfgang Rümmele succeeded Günter Lampert as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vogewosi , the state's own non-profit housing developer, on January 22, 2015 .

Wolfgang Rümmele was a member of the Dornbirn city council from 1980 to 1984 and was elected vice mayor in 1984, which he remained until 1999. During this time he took over the city council agendas for youth and sport from 1984 to 1985 and was then responsible for youth and culture until 1990. After that, until April 1999 he was mainly responsible for the areas of culture, urban development and urban planning, university of applied sciences and city marketing. In addition, Rümmele headed the Dornbirn People's Party as city party chairman since 1991.
On April 6, 1999, Wolfgang Rümmele took over the office of Mayor of Dornbirn from his predecessor Rudolf Sohm . In his first direct election as candidate for mayor of the People's Party, Rümmele received 65.42% of the votes; in the direct mayor election in 2005 he was confirmed in office with 65.60% of the votes. In the last election of his term of office, he received 57.4% of the votes in the direct election in the municipal council and mayoral election in 2010 .
After Rümmele announced in spring 2013 that he was stepping down from the mayor's office, the previous state councilor Andrea Kaufmann was elected as his successor at the city council meeting on May 29, 2013 . On October 26, 2013, he was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor of the State of Vorarlberg and on March 21, 2014, he was made an honorary citizen of his hometown Dornbirn.
Private
Rümmele was married and the father of three daughters. He lived on Häfenberg in the Oberdorf district of Dornbirn .
