After he became district chairman in January 2003, he resigned his position as district manager and was succeeded by Robert Laimer .

Furthermore, Heinzl sued the ÖVP regional manager Gerhard Karner for the statement in a NÖN interview "Types like Heinzl have enriched themselves at the ARBÖ". Karner was sentenced by the St. Pölten Regional Court to omission, revocation and reimbursement of costs, but went into appeal but also lost there.

For many years he was president of the SC Harland football club, where the former national player Frenk Schinkels also played in 2005, and his son now holds this position.
