Jürgen Weiss (born August 30, 1947 in Hard , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian civil servant and politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Jürgen Weiss graduated from the Federal Commercial Academy in Bregenz in 1965. He then joined the Vorarlberg regional service.

From 1969 he was a member of the state party presidium of the ÖVP Vorarlberg , from 1969 to 1991 state manager of the Vorarlberg People's Party, and from 1990–1995 a member of the municipal council of the state capital Bregenz. From 1991 he was a member of the federal party executive committee of the ÖVP. From 1979 to 1991 he was a member of the ORF Board of Trustees.

From 1979 to 1991 Jürgen Weiss was a member of the Austrian Federal Council sent from the state of Vorarlberg for the first time . From 1991 to 1994 Weiss was Federal Minister for Federalism and Administrative Reform. Between November 17, 1994 and November 29, 1994 Weiss also served as the shortest serving Minister of Agriculture in the Republic of Austria. Weiss completed his second term in the Federal Council from 1994 to 2009. On March 25, 2009, Weiss announced that he would be leaving the regional chamber at the end of April of that year. On May 8, his successor Magnus Brunner , who had previously been a substitute member of the Federal Council, took over his official function as Federal Councilor. The vice-chairmanship of the Federal Council went to the ÖVP functionary Harald Himmer from Vienna.
