history

The first documentary mention of Wetern comes from September 7th 1347, when Peter I. von Rosenberg awarded Višna to his chamberlain. In 1380 the Wetern farm received the status of a free inheritance and the Rosenbergs also left the Pötschmühle ( Pečka ) to the Višna von Wetern . The Višna, who can be traced back to the beginning of the 17th century, held high offices at the Rosenberg court . In 1603 Jan Višna had to sell his indebted property Wetter mit Gollitsch ( Kaliště ), Mödling ( Metlín ) and Niemsching ( Němče ) to the city of Krummau . After the defeat in the Battle of White Mountain , Višna left Bohemia. He was probably the last of this noble family, which has never been mentioned again since then.

Until the abolition of the manors in 1850, Wetter belonged to the possessions of the town of Krummau. In 1870 Ignaz Spiro acquired the Pötschmühle and converted the old grinding mill into a wood grinding shop. From this a paper mill emerged, which became the largest employer in town. In 1880 231 people lived in Wetter, in 1910 there were already 1005. The place expanded and housing estates were built for the workers. This trend continued in the 20th century and by 1930 Wetter had 2082 inhabitants that had developed into an urban-type settlement - but without ever having city rights. In 1892 the medieval fortress was converted into a school. In the 1920s there were over 1,000 jobs in the Spiro paper and cellulose factory. After the Second World War, the company was nationalized.

The paper mill JIP - Papírny Větřní, as, which has meanwhile been privatized to a joint stock company, is still the most important company in the area. Větřní has been a town since 2017.
