Lipno nad Vltavou ( German lips ) is a municipality in the Okres Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic . It belongs to the Jihočeský kraj region .
geography
The municipality is located on the banks of the Lipno reservoir , which was built between 1952 and 1959 and dams the Vltava , near the Vyšebrodsko nature park and the nature reserves Čertova stěna ( Devil's Wall ) and Luč ( Kienberg , 933 m). Here there is a granite massif and the remains of a primeval forest.
Community structure
The municipality of Lipno nad Vltavou consists of the districts Lipno nad Vltavou and Slupečná ( Luppetsching ). The basic settlement units are Kobylnice ( Goblens ), Lipno nad Vltavou and Slupečná. Lipno nad Vltavou also includes the residential areas Alpská vyhlídka ( Golitsch ), Březovice ( Pschieslowitz ), Kramolín ( Gromaling ), Plískov ( Stokern ) and Studené ( Studene ) and the Dobrá Voda ( Gutwasser ) desert .

history
The small settlement on the left bank of the Vltava originally belonged to the Rosenbergs and became the property of the Vyšší Brod monastery in the 15th century . The first written mention of the place took place in 1530. At that time it had about 150 inhabitants, who lived mainly from rafting . Lips was inhabited by Germans until the Germans were expelled from Czechoslovakia in 1945/46.
When the Lipno Dam was built in the 1950s and 1960s, the original Lipno lumberjack settlement was almost completely demolished and flooded. The new settlement that was built directly on the new reservoir was located on the economic periphery during the communist era. Today the Lipno region is one of the most popular recreational areas in the Czech Republic and is also visited by many foreign tourists.

After the Velvet Revolution , most local businesses lost their competitiveness. The municipality therefore tried to attract investors who invest in tourism. In 1997 the municipality started negotiations with a Dutch investor who then built the Marina Lipno apartment complex, one of the largest marinas in Central Europe. After that, other investors joined in and built a water park, developed the local ski area, built a snowboard park, toboggan runs, a summer theater, golf courses and other attractions.
In winter, the area has 35 kilometers of cross-country ski trails and several downhill trails for skiers and snowboarders. In 2005 an ice skating marathon took place on the frozen lake for the first time. In summer, tourists mainly use the numerous campsites and cycle paths. Water sports include sailing , kayaking and rafting . In 2003 the rafting world championship took place here. Swimming is possible on the sandy beaches and in the indoor pool, which was opened in 2003.

Lipno nad Vltavou is the terminus of the railway line Rybník u Dolního Dvořiště-Lipno nad Vltavou , the former electric local railway Zartlesdorf-Lippnerschwebe.

- The 675 m long tree-top path Lipno offers a view of the reservoir and the adjacent Bohemian Forest from the 40 m high observation tower. The path can be reached on foot, by chairlift or by shuttle bus.
