Lipno (German 1941–45 Leipe ) is a city in the Polish Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship . It is the seat of the Powiat Lipnowski and is located on the Mień River, about 20 km north-northeast of Włocławek and 40 km southeast of Toruń .

history

In 1349 Lipno was granted the town charter in Kulm . The town flourished during the 15th and 16th centuries . After the Second Partition of Poland , Lipno came to Prussia . In 1807 the city came to the Napoleon-dependent Duchy of Warsaw (1809 Grand Duchy), which was ruled in personal union by the King of Saxony .

After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, it remained in the newly established Congress Poland , which was in personal union with the Russian Empire . After the re-establishment of independent Poland after the First World War , Lipno became the seat of its own powiat . It lost this status in 1975, but after the administrative reform in 1999 it again became the seat of a district administration.
