history

The village was first mentioned as Malschin in 1339 and already owned a church at that time, which was a branch of the parish church of Rosenberg . The previous building of this church was a chapel, which was built in the 2nd half of the 13th century. The settlement at the intersection of the second Landessteig of Friedberg and Hohenfurth probably took place in the first half of the 13th century. On the strategically important tower mountain, which allowed a wide view into the country, there was a probably even older watchtower.

St. Margarethen Church has been a parish church since 1360. During the rule of the Rosenbergs , the church was rebuilt in 1593. After the Thirty Years War the Buquoy became the owners of the place. Ferdinand von Buquoy transferred the church and parish patronage to the Hohenfurth monastery in 1677 . At that time the church was rebuilt in baroque style and rededicated as the Sacred Heart Church. In 1856 the pilgrimage chapel of the Helpful Virgin Mary was built on the Turmberg.

In 1870 the Catholic parish Malsching included the 25 villages Deutsch Gillowitz, Gießhübel, Gromaling, Gutwasser, Hatzles, Hossenschlag, Kalling, Kastlern, Kienberg , Kühberg, Lopatne, Nesselbach, Ober Langendorf, Pschislowitz, Reith, Sarau, Schauflern, Schimern, Unter Langendorf, Walketschlag, Woiden, Woraschne (Grandlberg), Wörles, Wullachen and Zirnetschlag with a total of 2086 parishioners, 190 of whom lived in Malsching. Politically, Malsching was part of the municipality of Wörles and in 1930 had 303 inhabitants.

In 1945 the parish looked after 2,438 people. After the Second World War, the area, which was almost exclusively inhabited by Germans, was evacuated and after the expulsion in 1946 most of the villages in the area were abandoned.

The consecration of bells in Malšín in 2001

In 1990 the church was consecrated again as a parish church and in 2001 it received three new bells, which were manufactured in the Passau bell foundry Rudolf Perner and replaced the church bells melted down in 1941.
