history
The village originated in the 13th century. In 1488, the Goldenkron Monastery raised the church to a branch church of the Polletitz parish. In 1585 a separate parish was created in Stein. Stein was the pastor of Benetschlag, Böhmdorf, Fischern, Hossen, Hundshaberstift, Irresdorf, Langenbruck, Meisetschlag, Neustift, Ogfolderhaid, Perschetitz, Peterbach, Plattenschlag, Quitosching, Reith, Schneidetschlag, Schwiebgrub, Tichtihof and Tussetschlag. Until the abolition of the monastery in 1785, the pastoral office was held by the Goldenkron Cistercians.
After the abolition of patrimonial Stein / Polná formed from 1848 a district of the municipality Irresdorf / Lštín in the judicial district of Oberplan . From 1868 the village belonged to the Krumlov district . In 1910, 223 people lived in the village's 22 houses. In the 1921 census, the village had 198 inhabitants. The place name Stein im Bohemian Forest / Polná na Šumavě was introduced in 1924.
Until after the Second World War, the majority of German-Bohemian residents lived in Stein. After their expulsion in 1945/46, the village was hardly inhabited any more. The Lštín municipality was dissolved and the area was completely evacuated after 1947. After the area was cleared of civilians in 1949, the almost complete demolition of the villages began. From 1950 to 2015, Polná na Šumavě was on the Boletice military training area . At the beginning of 2016, Polná na Šumavě was spun off from the military area and a new municipality was formed.
