history
A chapel is said to have stood in Oemau as early as the 10th century. The first known owners were the Lords of Weleschin . During the Hussite Wars , the local church was occupied by the Hussite leader Jaroš and the pastor Peter von Milčin ( Petr z Milčína ) burned. Presumably since the end of the 14th century Oemau was in the possession of the Lords of Rosenberg , from whom it was presumably passed to the Schwanbergers in 1612 and after the confiscation of their possessions after the battle of the White Mountain to the Counts Buquoy .
A parish school existed in Oemau as early as the 15th century. On November 3, 1833, a fire destroyed almost the entire village. During the subsequent reconstruction, the church, rectory and schoolhouse were rebuilt. After the abolition of patrimonial Oemau formed an independent municipality. In 1913 another school building was built. In the First World War were 32 men from Oemau.
After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, Oemau belonged to the political district of Kaplice. In 1923 it was given the official Czech place name Soběnov . After the Munich Agreement, Soběnov remained with Czechoslovakia and from 1939 to 1945 belonged to the Budweis political district in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia .
After the Second World War, Oemau / Soběnov came back to re-established Czechoslovakia ; 1946 took place the expulsion of the German population. After the political upheaval of 1989, measures were taken to improve the infrastructure. In 2002 a flood caused great damage in Soběnov.
Attractions
- The originally Gothic St. Nicholas Church was changed to Baroque style around the middle of the 17th century.
- Sokoleč castle ruins. The castle was built by Beneš von Michalovic in the 13th century and belonged to the Lords of Veleschin in the 14th century. Presumably in 1387 it came to the Rosenbergs.
