Frymburk (German Friedberg , older also Friedburg ) is a minor town in the Okres Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic . It is located in the South Bohemia region on a peninsula on the left bank of the Lipno reservoir . A ferry connects it with the right bank and the village of Frýdava ( Friedau ).

The city is already in a zone of temperate continental climate. Due to the direct proximity to the Lipno reservoir, the climatic conditions differ significantly from those of the surrounding area. Summers here are short, cool and humid, while winters are long and harsh. The amount of precipitation is also 25% higher than in Ceske Budejovice.

The municipality of Frymburk consists of the districts Blatná ( Platten ), Frymburk, Kovářov ( Schmiedschlag ) and Milná ( Mühlneth ) as well as the residential areas Hrdoňov ( Heinrichsöd ), Hruštice ( Wadetstift ), Lojzovy Paseky ( Loislisches Gereith ), Moravice ( Mörowlov ) Nachles ), Posudov ( Stüblern ), Svatonina Lhota ( Wadetschlag ), Větrník and Vřesná ( Haidberg ). The deserted areas of Bobovec ( Pfaffenschlag ) and Mýtinka ( Wangetschlag ) lie on the municipal corridors .

history
Frymburk was first mentioned in writing in 1277 when it belonged to the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Krumlov . After these died out in 1302, the king transferred their possessions on April 8, 1302 to the also Witigon branch of the Rosenbergs . Gave Already on May 29, 1305 Henry I of Rosenberg the Schlägl the Church of Friedberg, which he increased the same day at more donations. On May 18, 1306 he increased the church's endowment again. After it between pins Schlägl and Ostrov had come because of the Friedberger church a dispute, he was on December 7, 1313 on behalf of the Prague bishop Johann from Bechyně settled Erzdechanten.
In 1379 Ulrich I. von Rosenberg gave Frymburk market rights. Due to its location on the trade route from Austria to Bohemia , it also had the right bridge toll for the former bridge over the Vltava river to rise. In 1492 Peter Wok von Rosenberg granted Frymburk town rights and in 1551 or later Wilhelm von Rosenberg granted Frymburg brewing rights. At the end of the 16th century there were already 118 houses in Frymburk. In the Thirty Years' War Frymburg was destroyed and burned down by the Swedes under the command of General Arvid Wittenberg . In 1676 Frymburk was owned by the Buquoy family . In 1856 a fire destroyed the historic square and 54 houses. In 1881 Frymburk received the first street lamps and in 1884 a telegraph station .
When the Lipno Reservoir was flooded in 1959, some buildings and the old cemetery that were flooded had to be abandoned. Today Frymburk is primarily a resort that is visited by numerous tourists. The main attractions include the Bohemian Forest nature reserve and the Lipno reservoir. It is a popular destination for anglers, hikers, cyclists and ski tourists in winter. Since 2007 Frymburk has again the status of Městys .
coat of arms
The coat of arms forms a red five-petalled rose with a golden center and green foliage, which is located on a silver shield. It is derived from the Rosenberger coat of arms.
Attractions
- The most famous building in Frymburk is the St. Bartholomew Church. It was founded before 1277 and rebuilt in the late Gothic style in 1530 . 1649–1652 it was renovated as a result of the attacks by Sweden. Further alterations were made in 1735 and 1870. The church's furnishings come from the Baroque era .
- The market square was transformed into a park after a fire in 1856 in the 1880s. Since the end of the 16th / beginning of the 17th century there has been an artificial brook in the middle of the market square, which is fed by the Podhorský brook . At that time still connected by a canal, a hose has been used for water supply since 1950.
- The fountain in the square probably dates from 1676. It is fed from the brook.
- The approximately five meter high stone pillory bears the year 1651. It replaced the former wooden pillory that was destroyed by the Swedes.
- Boulder with a bronze plaque by Hans Rathausky (1902) in memory of Adalbert Stifter , who often visited Frymburk because of his childhood sweetheart Fanny Greipl. Only the grave slab of Fanny's parents on the church wall in the direction of the ferry reminds of the love story.

- Fanny Greipl (1808–1839), merchant's daughter, adored by Adalbert Stifter in unfulfilled love.
- Jordan Kajetan Markus (1831-1893), educator and writer. After long efforts, he had the Adalbert Stifter monument built on the Plöckenstein based on a design by Heinrich Ferstel .
