Ulrich I. von Rosenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich I. von Rosenberg ( Oldřich I. z Rožmberka ; † March 4, 1390 ) came from the noble Rosenberger family , whose ruler he was from 1384 to 1390.

Life

His parents were Peter I. von Rosenberg and Katharina NN

Ulrich's siblings were:

  • Heinrich II. († 1346)
  • Peter II of Rosenberg († 1384)
  • Jost (1343-1369)
  • Johann († 1389)
  • Anna († 1388), married to Heinrich V. von Leipa
  • Mecela († 1380), married to Johann von Leuchtenberg, Count von Hals
  • NN, married to Tobias Bechin von Kamenice

After the father's death in 1347, the third-born son Jost became regent of the Rosenberg family, as the eldest Heinrich II was already dead and Peter I belonged to the clergy. Together with their mother, the brothers Jost, Peter, Ulrich and Johann founded the Augustinian monastery in Wittingau in 1367 . After Jost's death in 1369, Ulrich followed in the Rosenbergs' reign. For reasons unknown, the brothers Ulrich, Peter and Johann shared the property in 1374. Ulrich received the rest of the Rosenberg possessions together with Peter , Gratzen and Johann. Around 1375 Ulrich donated the hospital church of St. Vitus in Soběslav and around 1380 he had the Gothic Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary built in Miličín .

In 1381 and 1382 Ulrich fought alongside his relatives, the Counts of Schaunberg, against the Austrian Duke Albrecht . The disputes were ended by King Wenceslas IV with a contract dated January 24, 1382 between Duke Albrecht on the one hand and Ulrich and his brothers Peter and Johann and Heinrich von Neuhaus on the other. Albrecht was obliged to leave the castle and town of Eferding in Upper Austria to the Rosenberg brothers . In return, the Rosenbergs had to undertake to forego the military support of the Schaunberger.

With a contract, which was presumably drawn up after the death of their brother Peter II in 1384, the brothers Ulrich and Johann agreed that after the death of their last brother the Rosenberg estates would be reunited. Since Johann died a year before Ulrich, his only son Heinrich III immediately followed him . from Rosenberg .

Legend

Ulrich's participation in the Franco-English War under the command of King Charles IV, mentioned by the Rosenberg chronicler Václav Březan , does not correspond to the facts, as Charles IV was not involved in this war.

family

Ulrich I. von Rosenberg was married to Elisabeth von Wartenberg ( Eliška / Alžběta z Vartenberka ). She died on March 12, 1387. The marriage had the only son, Heinrich III. from Rosenberg.

The daughters Anna and Agnes listed in the older literature are not documented.

Individual evidence

  1. The previous statement by Katharina von Wartenberg is unlikely and not proven.
  2. Anna is said to have been married to Hugo von Montfort and Agnes to Rudolf I von Walsee . According to more recent information, however, Hugo was married to Anna von Neuhaus and Rudolf to Agnes von Leipa .
