Juerg Weiss

Jürg Weiss (* 1910 in Basel ; † July 20, 1941 on the Strahlegghorn in the Bernese Oberland ) was a Swiss writer and mountaineer .

Life

Weiss was a trained businessman, primary school teacher and journalist in Basel, passionate mountaineer, intellectual head of the elite mountaineering club West-Alpen-Club WAC and member of the Swiss Alpine Club , Basel section. With Hans Frei he succeeded on 27./28. July 1935 the first ascent of the "iron" at Pizzi Gemelli in Bergell . In the summer of 1941 he fell to his death on the descent from the Strahlegghorn.

A collection of his stories and essays was published posthumously under the title "Cliffs and Fissures". The publicist and editor of the Basler National-Zeitung Fritz René Allemann writes about it: "Jürg Weiss was a mountaineering analyst, a dissector of feelings and moods, a keen observer of emotional reactions - in a word: a psychologist also as an alpinist".
