Gottfried Jaud

Gottfried Jaud (born January 9, 1937 in Jenbach ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and master carpenter. From 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council and its president in the second half of 1994 and in the first half of 1999.

education and profession

Jaud attended elementary school in Jenbach between 1943 and 1947 and secondary school in Jenbach from 1947 to 1951. In 1951 he moved to the Federal Trade School for Mechanical Engineering in Bregenz, which he completed by 1952. He then learned the trade of a sawmill between 1952 and 1955 and attended vocational school at the same time. Between 1955 and 1956 he obtained the secondary school leaving certificate at the Staatliches Holztechnikum Rosenheim and then studied from 1956 to 1960 at the Engineering School Staatliches Holztechnikum Rosenheim. In 1960 he completed his studies with a degree in industrial engineering in the wood industry and completed his military service. Furthermore, he passed the master craftsman's examination for the carpentry trade in 1965. Between 1961 and 1969 he worked as a manager in his parents' sawmill and carpentry shop, and from 1970 he worked as a self-employed master carpenter.

Politics and functions

Jaud began his political career in 1977 as a councilor in his home town of Jenbach. He was elected Vice Mayor in 1980 and held this office until 1992. Within the party, he was active as local party chairman of the Austrian People's Party Jenbach from 1979 to 1988, and between 1987 and 1995 he was district party chairman of the Austrian People's Party in Schwaz. Furthermore, Jaud was local group chairman of the Austrian Business Association Jenbach from 1979 to 1989 and from 1986 to 1989 district group chairman of the Austrian Business Union in the Schwaz district. He was also a member of the college of the district school council from 1980 to 1992. Jaud became a member of the Austrian Federal Council on April 4, 1989, of which he was a member until June 30, 1999. He also chaired the Federal Council from July 1, 1994 to December 31, 1994 and from April 4, 1999 to June 30, 1999 as President. From 1996 to 1998 he was also deputy committee chairman in the health committee of the Federal Council, from 1996 to 1998 deputy committee chairman in the economic committee of the federal council and from 1998 to 1999 deputy committee chairman in the committee for economic affairs of the federal council.
