Eleonora "Lore" Hostasch (born July 9, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician of the SPÖ .

Life

Eleonora Hostasch began her professional career at BAWAG after graduating from the commercial academy in 1962 . There she was from 1975 to 1994 Chairman of the Central Works Council .

In 1987 she was elected to the Vienna City Council and State Parliament. She also became a member of the SPÖ's federal party executive. From 1989–1994 Hostasch was chairwoman of the private workers' union , 1991–1995 also vice-president of the ÖGB . From 1989–94, 1994–97 President of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Vienna (AK Wien) and the Federal Chamber of Labor (BAK), from 1996–97 and 1999–2000, Hostasch was a member of the National Council . From 1997 to 2000 she was Federal Minister for Labor, Health and Social Affairs.

The union of private employees is the only union that from 1989 to 1994 had a woman, Eleonora Hostasch, as chairwoman. From 1994 to 1997, Eleonora Hostasch was the first woman president of the Federal Chamber of Labor in the Chamber of Labor and Employees. Only in 2018, Renate Anderl, was followed by another woman in this role. Since leaving the federal government and returning as a trade union official, Eleonora Hostasch has been referred to in many places as a consensus politician or grande dame of the Austrian social partnership , even across party lines.

She is a member of the Federal Presidium and Honorary Chairman of the GPA-DJP .

Since 2003 she has been the chairwoman of the Central Control Commission of the ÖGB .

Eleonora Hostasch was initially from 2007 to 2012 chairwoman of the government expert group on demography issues of the European Commission , since then she has been a member of the European Union Senior Advisory Board (EU scientific committee) in Brussels .
