history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg , which was the main town for the entire north-east Norikum.

Later under the Romans, today's Weikersdorf was then in the province of Pannonia .

Weikersdorf was first mentioned in 1146 as "Wikkersdorf" or "Wicherisdorf". The name refers to the Old High German name "Wigheri" (comrade in arms), probably the name of the founder, owner or clearing leader.

On April 1, 1945, Russian shock troops of the 99th Guards Rifle Division stood directly in front of Weikersdorf am Steinfelde. A Soviet tank advance was repulsed by the German defenders. Then Soviet artillery bombardment takes place on the village. The then mayor Hermann Laferl succeeded in establishing contact with the Russians and agreed to hand over the place on April 2, 1945 without a fight.
