history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg , which was the main town for the entire north-east Noricum .

Later under the Romans, today's Theresienfeld was then in the province of Pannonia .

Empress Maria Theresia founded the village in 1763 as a colonist village in order to use the Wiener Neustädter Heide more intensively. The elongated Breitstrasse village in the unsettled plain of the Steinfeld is the only foundation of Maria Theresa in what is now Austria and was named after her. However, due to the lack of water, the area could only be used for agricultural purposes to a limited extent. Almost half of the first settlers came from Tyrol. This is still recognizable today from the farm name and the artificial irrigation system Tirolerbach .

After the hereditary subservience was lifted as a result of the revolution of 1848/1849 , Theresienfeld became its own municipality in 1850.

According to the data of the 2001 census , 61.4% of the population are Roman Catholic and 6.2% Protestant . 4.9% are Muslims , 4.7% belong to Orthodox churches and 0.1% are Israelite . 18.2% of the population have no religious denomination.
