The Roman Catholic branch church Theresienfeld is in the center of the market town of Theresienfeld in Lower Austria . The branch church of the Holy Cross belongs to the parish of the good shepherd in Steinfeld in the deanery Wiener Neustadt in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building .

history

In 1767 the building of the church began with the foundation of the parish with the master builder Josef Gerl and the laying of the foundation stone. In 1768 an earthquake damaged the shell. This was followed by a re-planning, the church was built lower and received a wooden vault. The parish church was consecrated in 1768.

On January 1, 2017, the parish Theresienfeld was expanded to include the parishes of Felixdorf and Sollenau and renamed to Zum guten Hirten im Steinfeld. The parish church in Sollenau was designated as the parish church . The former parish church Theresienfeld has since been a branch church of the parish of the good shepherd in Steinfeld and is the church of the sub-community of the Exaltation of the Cross.

architecture

Exterior of the church The late baroque church building in the center of the church with a west tower has an almost square nave with a longitudinal window each. The simple west tower facade with a square vestibule and flanking single-storey extensions has a central projection with a large arched window. On the cornice gable follows a two-storey facade tower with large acoustic windows, clock gables and a constricted onion dome. The slightly drawn-in choir with a straight end shows a simple surrounding cornice. In the south of the choir is a single-storey sacristy annex.

Church interior The central room has rounded corners under a flat dome. At the side are shallow altar niches with segmental arches above. The west gallery with a curved parapet is vaulted under a square. The one-bay rectangular choir has a square vault. The decorative wall painting in the vault of the central room and in the choir is from the second quarter of the 18th century.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1772 has a flat retable and has a magnificently designed eye of God symbol in the extract. The free-standing altar table bears a small tabernacle flanked by angels. Above it is a monumental late baroque crucifix. The side altars are simple table retables and show Maria Immaculata on the left and Theresa on the right, both from the second half of the 18th century. The baroque hanging pulpit with reliefs is from the construction period. The Stations of the Cross are from the second half of the 19th century. There are two baroque confessionals.

There is a bell with the inscription Johann Josef Pfrenger 1761.
