Deanery Wiener Neustadt

It includes 13 parishes in southern Lower Austria with around 43,000 Catholics (2009).

history

The early history of the dean's office in Wiener Neustadt is linked to the old diocese of Wiener Neustadt founded in 1469 . In 1783 the deanery was downsized when Johann Heinrich von Kerens , the last bishop of Wiener Neustadt, divided the parishes of the diocese into the deaneries of Kirchberg, Kirchschlag, Neunkirchen and Wiener Neustadt. Later there was a separation into the deaneries Wiener Neustadt Stadt and Wiener Neustadt Land . In 2000 the dean's office in Lanzenkirchen was separated from the dean's office in Wiener Neustadt Land, initially for a trial period of three years. In 2003, the Wiener Neustadt deanery was re-established from the Wiener Neustadt Stadt deanery and the reduced Wiener Neustadt Land deanery.

Diocesan development process

On November 29, 2015, development areas were defined for all parishes in the Archdiocese of Vienna. The parishes should work more closely together in the development areas, form parish associations or pastoral care rooms. At the end of the process, new parishes should emerge from the development areas. The following development areas have been defined in the Wiener Neustadt deanery:

• Wiener Neustadt Herz-Mariä and Wiener Neustadt-Neukloster
• Felixdorf, Sollenau and Theresienfeld (since 2017 parish of the good shepherd in Steinfeld)
• Bad Fischau-Brunn, St. Egyden am Steinfeld, Weikersdorf am Steinfeld and Winzendorf
• Ebenfurth, Eggendorf, Lichtenwörth and Zillingdorf
• Wiener Neustadt-Propsteipfarre and Wiener Neustadt-St. Anton (since 2019 parish Wiener Neustadt-Propsteipfarre)

The parishes of Ebenfurth, previously the deanery Weigelsdorf , and St. Egyden am Steinfeld, previously the deanery Neunkirchen , became part of the deanery Wiener Neustadt on September 1, 2016.

The parishes of Maiersdorf and Muthmannsdorf became part of the Neunkirchen deanery on September 1, 2016 .
