The Roman Catholic parish church Bad Fischau-Brunn is located in Bad Fischau in the market town of Bad Fischau-Brunn in Lower Austria . The parish church of St. Martin belongs to the deanery Wiener Neustadt in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The originally Romanesque church of St. Martin in Fischau am Steinfeld is a listed building .

history

In the 9th century a church for Fischau am Steinfeld was mentioned for the first time. The church was sovereign in 1380, was loaned to the provost of Wiener Neustadt in 1478 and belonged to the diocese of Wiener Neustadt from 1544 . The church was incorporated into the Neuberg Cistercian monastery in 1610 . During the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683, the church burned down. From 1796 to 1798 the church was extensively rebuilt in classical style, with a square choir being added to the west.

architecture

The church stands in the west of Bad Fischau and is surrounded by a triangular and rarely so well-preserved Gadenkirchhof with so-called church cellars - analogous to a cellar lane - which are still preserved on the north side.

The slender east tower with round arch frieze was built in the 12th century. The church has a stone-peeped nave, and in 1976 medieval ashlar masonry was discovered and uncovered. The Romanesque stepped round arch portal on the south side with the wall painting St. Martin in the tympanum dates from the 14th century.

Furnishing

The high altar picture St. Martin Edmund Pölz (1894) painted based on a template by Anton van Dyck . The side altarpiece Madonna and Child after Perugino was painted by Anton Reisacher (1862); it includes a representation of Brunn Palace .

The organ was built by Herbert Gollini (1986).
