The Roman Catholic parish church Zillingdorf is located in the market town of Zillingdorf in Lower Austria . The parish church of St. Georg belongs to the deanery Wiener Neustadt in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building .

history

The parish, which was assigned to the cathedral chapter of Wiener Neustadt in 1493, was probably built around 1300. The church was destroyed in 1605 and rebuilt in 1614 with Cardinal Melchior Khlesl . After damage in the Turkish War (1683), the church was in ruins until 1686 and was then rebuilt until 1700. The parish was a free episcopal collation parish until 1785. In 1829 there was a vault. There was a fire in 1859. In 1865 it was rebuilt and expanded in neo-Romanesque forms with the master builder Johann Nothaft. The church was restored in 1952.

architecture

At the church, which is basically Gothic with a retracted choir, the nave was extended to the west by a yoke and received a neo-Romanesque main facade with a south tower.
