The Parish and Collegiate Church of the Holy Trinity is a Roman Catholic monastery church of the Neukloster Abbey in Wiener Neustadt on Ungargasse and Neuklostergasse 1.

Building history

The Dominican monastery at Ungartor was founded before 1250. The choir front of the monastery church broke through the former eastern city wall; to the north, the city wall is still included in the east wall of the adjoining building. The city gate to Hungary in the Ungargasse immediately north of it was later demolished. The early Gothic order church of the Dominicans from the late 13th century had a basilical structure and was changed in a late Gothic style after the takeover by the Cistercians in the middle of the 15th century with a hall long house and chapels in the Neuklostergasse to the west. To the south, the Neukloster Abbey is directly connected with an arcade and inner courtyard.

The three-aisled Dominican basilica with a long choir was damaged in the city fire in 1433 and was handed over to the Cistercians in 1444. In 1452 the nave was vaulted lower and in 1453 the church was extended to the west with a Barbara chapel and a cruciform chapel. The donors were Kaiser Friedrich III. and Duke Albert VI . Master builder Peter von Pusika is accepted as the builder of the renovation . After the fire of 1649, the tower on the side of the monastery was not rebuilt and replaced by a turret in the ridge of the nave roof. In 1699 the baroque high altar was built. In 1734 the floor of the church was raised and an organ gallery was added. In 1744 the Kreuzkapelle was redesigned in Baroque style by Franz Wagner. After an earthquake, iron trusses were drawn in in the south aisle. In the town fire of 1834, the church roof and the ridge turret were destroyed and then renewed again. In 1893 the Barbara Chapel was regotified by Dominik Avanzo. In 1944 the church roof was destroyed by bombs and then replaced again.
