Parish Church of St. Egyden am Steinfeld
The parish church of St. Egyden am Steinfeld is located on the church square in the parish of St. Egyden am Steinfeld in the Neunkirchen district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Aegidius , belongs to the deanery Wiener Neustadt in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).
history
The essentially Romanesque church was changed by additions and renovations in the late 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The uniform Romanesque hall building with a rectangular choir was built around 1230. A Gothic east tower was added to the rectangular choir in the 14th century . The church was badly damaged in the Turkish War (1683). Around 1700, the nave was rebuilt with an enlarged window and a sacristy was added to the north of the choir, in 1714 the church was vaulted and a west gallery with two side galleries was added, making the original hall into a three-aisled gallery. In 1799 an extensive renovation took place under the owner of Urschendorf Castle, Baron Emmanuel Anton von Doria. In 1845 the original tower staircase was removed and the sacristy was given a wall opening to the choir. In 1850 a small sacristy was added to the south of the choir as a winter sacristy and the northern nave windows were changed. In 1890 the southern nave windows were enlarged. In 1995 a restoration took place, in the course of which a staircase leading to the baroque, almost square crypt was exposed.
In a document, a parish founded around 1300 was mentioned in 1362 and is possibly also identical to the Steinfeld parish mentioned in 1151 .
The parish of St. Egyden am Steinfeld moved from the dean's office in Neunkirchen to the dean's office in Wiener Neustadt on September 1st, 2016 .
