Lichtenegg is a municipality with 1039 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Wiener Neustadt-Land district in Lower Austria .
geography
Lichtenegg is located in the Bucklige Welt , in the southwest of the industrial district in Lower Austria. The area of the municipality covers 35.39 square kilometers. 48.83 percent of the area is forested.

history
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg , which was the main town for the entire north-east Noricum .
Later under the Romans, today's Lichtenegg was then in the province of Pannonia .
The natural scientist Johann Jakob von Tschudi acquired the Jakobshof in 1848.

Religions
According to the 2001 census data , 96.2% of the population are Roman Catholic and 0.6% Protestant . 0.1% belong to Orthodox churches . 2.8% of the population have no religious denomination.

The pastor of the Lichtenegg parish had been Johann Hartl since September 1st, 1974. He retired on August 31, 2011. On September 1st 2011 Pastor Thomas Rath took over the leadership of the parish.

Culture and sights
- Catholic pilgrimage church Kaltenberg Maria Schnee
- Catholic parish church Lichtenegg hl. Jakobus the Elder: The original facility, built around 1200 in Lichtenegg, was expanded in the 15th century to a defense system with a defensive upper floor in the nave and defensive tower. This fortified church is one of the few fortified churches that have survived, with the surrounding wall reinforced with round towers with beam holes for the battlements and the church with tower, which has been specially raised for defensive purposes. An oven with a hob in the church tower, lounge facilities and special defense facilities are still preserved today as special equipment.

economy
In 2001 there were 55 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry operations 109 according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment in the place of residence was 465. In 2001 the activity rate was 43.41 percent.
