Wiesmath is a market town with 1519 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Wiener Neustadt-Land district in Lower Austria .
geography
Wiesmath is located in the industrial district in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 38.44 km², 50.78% of the area is forested.
Neighboring communities
history
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .
Later under the Romans, today's Wiesmath was then in the province of Pannonia .
Wiesmath was first mentioned in a document in 1295 as "Wiesmarcht". The three oldest houses in Wiesmath were built around 1300: Beisteiner, Trimmel, Schrammel.
In the 17th century Wiesmath suffered greatly from the Turks and Kuruc . After that, almost the entire population died of the plague . The Marian column was erected as a reminder.

The market town of Wiesmath was awarded a municipal coat of arms by resolution of the Lower Austrian state government on September 24, 1991.
Blazon : "In a blue shield, outstanding from a green three-mountain, half a golden wheel, growing out of it a golden man with a cloak and cap, who holds a sword in his right hand and his left arm in his side."
At the same time, the municipal colors “blue-yellow-green” set by the municipal council of the market town of Wiesmath were approved.

According to the data of the 2001 census , 97.9% of the population are Roman Catholic and 0.4% Protestant , 0.1% are Muslim , 1.4% of the population have no religious beliefs.

Culture and sights
- Catholic parish church Wiesmath Hll. Peter and Paul
- Catholic branch church St. Anna in Annaberg: The late Gothic church was built in 1509 on the crest of a mountain ridge and can be seen from afar. In the baroque period it was expanded and rebuilt, among other things the nave received high arched windows. The church was badly damaged in a fire in 1775 and in the course of the Josephine reforms it was closed in 1783, sold and used as a sheepfold. Thanks to the efforts of the pastor Mathias Gittler, the church was reopened in 1803 after a new consecration. After severe war damage, it was rebuilt in 1946/47. In 1955/56 the west tower and vestibules were built according to plans by Karl Simon .
economy
In 2001 there were 58 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry holdings according to the 1999 survey 147. The number of people in work at the place of residence was 722 according to the 2001 census. The 2001 activity rate was 45.96%.
