Bromberg (until 1973 the municipality was called Schlatten ) is an Austrian market town with 1,178 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Wiener Neustadt-Land district in Lower Austria .

geography

Bromberg is located in the southeast of the Lower Austrian industrial district in the Bucklige Welt . The area of ​​the market town covers 30.89 square kilometers. 43.44 percent of the area is forested.

history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg . Later under the Romans, today's Bromberg was then in the province of Pannonia . The place Bromberg was named in 1835 because of its wooden products, namely vine stakes, wooden shingles and birch barrel hoops.

On November 20, 1973, Schlatten was renamed Bromberg, and on August 10, 1985, Bromberg was raised to a market town.

  • Bromberg Waldbühne Bucklige Welt: From summer 2004 to 2010 the annual witch's summer, a small theater event, took place on the Waldbühne.
  • The “Bucklige Welt shadow theater” was started in 2013 by the Bromberg village renewal program with the premiere of Elisabeth Daniel's play “HexenZeitreise”. It is played in the theater of the parsonage in Bromberg.
  • Bromberger Hexenweg: You can experience nature and history on the 3-kilometer hiking trail from the Au in Bromberg along the Schlattenbach. The story of Afra Schickh (herbalist woman from Schlatten, burned as a witch in Wiener Neustadt in 1671) is told on 7 display boards.
