The Tirolerbach is an artificial irrigation system in the Lower Austrian town of Theresienfeld . The name comes from the fact that a large part of the settlers who settled in Theresienfeld in the 18th century came from Tyrol .

Theresienfeld's regularly installed irrigation system around 1873 (above, recording sheet from the state survey )

The approx. 5.3 km long irrigation canal is fed by the Piesting near Wöllersdorf and leads to the center of Theresienfeld . There the water is distributed and channeled to the agricultural areas by means of lock systems. The entire network with all secondary canals covers around 30 km.

The irrigation system was built in the course of the foundation of the village from 1763 in the time of Maria Theresa . Pioneers dug and implemented the system as a timber-framed canal. Around 1832 the canals to the west were lined with stones and expanded. It was not until 1950 that the canal was encased in concrete so that water losses through seepage could be significantly reduced.

This service water system is still in operation today and is maintained by the Theresienfeld water cooperative .
