Friedrich Brettner (born April 3, 1935 in Gloggnitz ) is an Austrian gendarme , most recently gendarmerie district inspector , and as such also a chronicler and author.

Life

After attending compulsory school, he learned the profession of electrical installer . In 1955 he joined the Austrian Federal Gendarmerie and since that time has been active in the executive service as a gendarmerie dog handler. At the Gendarmerie Central Command in Vienna he acted as a trainer for service dog handlers and trainer for service dogs and as an expert for the service dog system of the Austrian Federal Gendarmerie in the Federal Ministry of the Interior . Friedrich Brettner has been retired since November 1994. His last rank was gendarmerie district inspector .

As a student, Brettner experienced the final battles of World War II in his home country. In 1984 he wrote a chronicle about the fighting in the Semmering area and published his first book, which was followed by more.

His works on the end of the Second World War in Lower Austria and the publications on the history of the gendarmerie are listed in military schools in almost all European countries, in America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Through his research, more than 100 soldiers, often still lying in field graves, were identified. Brettner has been doing this work for the Austrian Black Cross since 1982. The last three salvages took place on August 27, 2012 in the Puchberg and Grünbach area .

From 1990 to 2010 he headed the Museum for Younger Contemporary History in the Karl Renner Villa in Gloggnitz, where he designed the following special exhibitions:
