The municipality Poopó ([ po.o.ˈpo ]) is a district in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Poopó is one of three municipalities in the province of Poopó and borders in the northeast with the province Pantaleón Dalence , in the northwest with the province Cercado , in the southwest with the municipality Pazña , and in the southeast with the municipality Antequera .

The central place of the municipality is the village Poopó with 3,618 inhabitants ( 2012 ) in the central part of the district.

The municipality of Poopó is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano in front of the Cordillera Azanaques , which is part of the Cordillera Central mountain range . The climate is a typical time of day climate in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than during the year.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 8 ° C (see climate diagram) and fluctuates between 3 ° C in June and July and 11 ° C from November to March.
