Merchtem is a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region . It is located in the province of Flemish Brabant and belongs to the arrondissement of Halle-Vilvoorde . The community consists of the districts Brussegem , Hamme and Merchtem .

location

Merchtem is located 12 kilometers southeast of Dendermonde , 14 km east of Aalst , 15 km northwest of Brussels , 20 km southwest of Mechelen and 36 km east-southeast of Ghent . The next motorway exits are at Meise on the A12 , Wemmel on the Brussels motorway ring and in the south at Ternat on the A10 / E 40 . Merchtem has a train station on the Lokeren - Dendermonde - Merchtem - Brussels branch line . There are other regional train stations nearby in Dendermonde, Mechelen and Aalst and train stations of national importance in Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp.
The nearest international airport is near the capital, Brussels.
