The municipality of Sint-Genesius-Rode plays a special role in the Belgian language dispute, as it is the only one of the six municipalities with facilities in the vicinity of Brussels that borders both the Brussels-Capital Region and the Wallonia Region . There are other Flemish municipalities that border on both neighboring regions. Incorporation of this municipality into Brussels would create a geographical link between Wallonia and Brussels.
