Begijnendijk is a Belgian municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant . It includes the sub-municipality Betekom, which was an independent municipality until 1977 and was then merged with Begijnendijk.
Origin of name
The name Begijnendijk comes from the dikes and paths that beguines from Aarschot had built here in the 17th century as connecting paths between estates and leaseholds.
Attractions
St. Lawrence Church Betekom The church was built in the for the Hageland typical style of Demergotik . In the interior there are some historical treasures, such as a rococo altar from 1767, a baptismal font from 1615 and a rood screen with organ from 1770.
St. Lucia Church Begijnendijk Modern Gothic church from the years 1953–1954. The church treasury includes liturgical silverware from the 17th to 19th centuries.
