Hagenwerder ( Nikrisch until 1936 , formerly Nickrisch ) has been part of Görlitz since the Saxon district reform of 1994 .

history

Hagenwerder power plant - awarded as an enterprise of socialist work

The first source evidence for the existence of the village Nikrisch can be found in 1335 as "Nickers" and in 1340 a "Jakof von Nikrozhin" is mentioned in the oldest Görlitz town book. The historic core of the village Hagenwerder (before 1937 Nikrisch, the Sorbian derived name Nikros) is by name, location facility and corridor form shown as an old Slavic village, forming well with its neighboring towns on both sides of the Neisse one of the earliest settlement centers of the eastern Oberlausitz. Grave finds from the early Iron Age indicate an even earlier settlement.

At the end of the Middle Ages, the mayor of Görlitz, Georg Emmerich , acquired the manor in Nikrisch, which is still partially preserved today. Together with Tauchritz , the place formed an independent municipality until 1994.

The Hagenwerder power plant was located in Hagenwerder , which together with the neighboring Berzdorf opencast mine was the main employer in the region and to which the town owes its expansion to a large residential area in the south of the old village center. In 1997 the power plant was closed by VEAG and coal mining in the opencast mine ended, and the local school closed soon after.

Hagenwerder today

Many privatized apartments and houses have been built and Hagenwerder has become a quiet residential area. To relieve the main border crossing in Görlitz, a new crossing in the direction of Radomierzyce (Radmeritz) was opened.

Events

2000-2009: House of Summer

The House of Summer festival of electronic music with around 3,000 visitors took place from 2000 to 2006 in the district's outdoor pool.

In 1993 the first official event under this name took place twice. The venues at that time were Eiserode and the outdoor pool in Obercunnersdorf . From 1994 to 1997 the location changed constantly. Schlegeler Teiche, Hainewalde sand pit and the Niederoderwitz swimming pool were used as a festival site.

In 1998 and 1999, the House of Summer was not held due to the dwindling response in previous years.

In 2000 the idea was picked up again and a fixed location was chosen for the event. The choice fell on the Hagenwerder outdoor pool with its impressive backdrop of a disused power plant in the background. The international and multicultural aspect of this festival was reinforced by its location in the triangle between Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany. Over the years, the number of floors (stages) and different musical styles had also grown. In 2006 there was for the first time an arena for broken beats and drum & bass in addition to main , techno , house and lounge floors . In addition to the actual festival in the evening and in the night until the next noon, there was an almost traditionally grown cultural program in the afternoon with workshops, youth competitions, football tournaments and the not very serious but no less important House of Halma competition.
