Klingewalde has been a Görlitz district since it was incorporated on January 1, 1949 . It is located in the north between Königshufen and Ludwigsdorf. A 1.5 kilometer long village road runs through the village and is overgrown with old trees on both sides. Klingewalde still exudes a rural character.

history

Klingewalde Castle around 1860, Alexander Duncker collection

Archaeological finds prove a settlement as early as the Neolithic . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1468. At that time it was called In der Clinge, in Middle High German: In the valley. In 1539 a small settlement was built on Vorwerkland. A Vorwerk itself is known from 1581.

The Klingewalde manor, also known as the Klingewalder Castle , functioned as a manor . To the south of it was a post mill . It was built in 1685 and destroyed by a storm in 1832. In 1852 a new one was built, this time a Dutch windmill , which in 1970 was partially damaged by the weather and decay. Some old buildings are particularly worth seeing. These are three-sided farmsteads with a half-timbered upper floor . A cannonball and a stone slab with the year 1813 on one of the gables remind of the Napoleonic War (Klingewalde No. 24).

From 1953 to 1985 the old manor house served as a nursing home. After seven years of vacancy, renovation work began in 1992. In 1998/99 the Institute for Cultural Infrastructure Saxony completed the house and park. Since then, Haus Klingewalde has been used for the Culture and Management course at the Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and is the seat of the trinational Collegium PONTES Görlitz-Zgorzelec-Zhorelec and the International Summer School of the Arts. The main building, which is under monument protection, has a painted ceiling from the 17th century and was remodeled in a neo-Gothic style in 1854.

The former Klingewalde brickworks was used by the agricultural cooperative during the GDR era. In the north, on the former parade ground, a pig fattening facility was built in 1952. From the VEG state owned Good animal production today was good animal production Görlitz GmbH forth.
