Jens Friebe

Jens Friebe (born December 25, 1975 in Lüdenscheid ) is a German musician and music journalist .

Career

Friebe studied musicology , English and philosophy . After playing in relatively unknown bands such as Parka and Bum Khun Cha Youth for several years , a solo performance in Hamburg led to contact with Alfred Hilsberg in 2003, at whose instigation Friebe's debut album Before After Pictures was created. It was released in March 2004 on Hilsberg 's ZickZack Records label. A song appeared previously on a zigzag -Labelcompilation.

The album CD (with the single Gespenster ) received many very good reviews (among others in Spex , Zeit, and specifically ) and was often referred to as one of the best German pop albums of 2004. Among other things, the ambiguous, German-language lyrics were praised.

The plate was in connection with the Hamburg School brought, not least because of the two producers of the album, Armin milk and even for Tocotronic , edge and To Rococo Rot active Tobias Levin . In addition to independent pop and classic singer / songwriting, the reviewers also named Electropop, Neue Deutsche Welle and Eurodisco as references for the musical style of Friebe's pieces. Friebe performs live solo with guitar or together with a band. He lives in Berlin and has been writing for the music magazine Intro for several years . He is also the "permanent auxiliary drummer" of the band Britta .

In June 2007 Jens Friebe published the book 52 Weekends. Texts to go through with blog posts written by him. At the same time, he announced his sixth studio album Fuck Penetration , which, like its predecessor, was released on the Staatsakt label on November 2, 2018 . "Far beyond the central concern that Fuck Penetration communicates, the whole production delights from the first few notes with an anti-flirtatious approach to the audience," wrote Dietmar Dath in the feature section of the FAZ about the album.

Friebe is in a relationship with the feminist author Margarete Stokowski . His brother is the author Holm Friebe .
