The band name results in the same text read both forwards and backwards. It comes from a palindrome collection from the 19th century.

history

The brothers Ronald and Robert Lippok had already combined electronic music and punk with one another in the 1980s in East Berlin with the ornament and crime project . Robert Lippok and the then Kreidler bassist Stefan Schneider met in 1995 and decided to work together at some point. As part of an art project in the Berlin gallery "Weißer Elefant", in which Robert's brother Ronald was also involved, they met again six months later. Within a few days, the three recorded an album: The work entitled To Rococo Rot was released in 1996 on the Berlin indie pop / electronic label Kitty-Yo .

In 1997 the next album followed, Veiculo , with which the band switched to the Berlin City Slang label. In 1999 the band switched to Mute Records and the album The Amateur View was released, followed by Music Is a Hungry Ghost and Kölner Brett in 2001, Hotel Morgen in 2004 and Taken from Vinyl in 2006.

On their last LP from 2014, To Rococo Rot worked for the first time with vocals, which Arto Lindsay contributed on three tracks. At the end of the same year the band broke up - after one last concert in Berlin.

Ronald Lippok was also active at Tarwater , also since 1995.
