FatCat Records is a British music label based in Brighton . The label releases music from various genres such as electronica , noise and post-rock .
history
Alex Knight and Dave Cawley opened the record store FatCat in Crawley , West Sussex , in 1989 and moved to London in 1990 . FatCat also had many sought-after collectibles on offer, which soon made the shop a hangout for the London DJ scene. Due to their good contacts with various musicians, young talents kept their demos in the store, which gave them first insights into A&R work. Around 1997 the two decided to continue FatCat as a label.
The first publications appeared in collaboration with One Little Indian Records ; the label has been operating independently since 1998.
The label became known to a larger audience after the Icelandic bands Sigur Rós and múm released their music on FatCat Records in 1999.
From 2000 to 2004 there was a collaboration with PIAS . The label moved to Brighton in the south of England in spring 2001 . In the same year, the sub-label 130701 was founded, which mainly published classical music by Sylvain Chauveau , Max Richter , Hauschka and Dustin O'Halloran .
In 2005 a second office was opened in New York City . In 2011 the sub-label Palmist Records was launched.
