múm [muːm] is an Icelandic band from Reykjavík , which was founded in 1997 by Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason, Gunnar Örn Tynes and twin sisters Kristín Anna and Gyða Valtýsdóttir. According to the members, the band name should mean nothing. In a previous interview it was explained as a picture: The letters represent two elephants waving their trunks.

Band history

The first musical experiments came in 1998, which led to the debut album Yesterday was dramatic - Today is ok . For the creation of the album Finally we are no one , which was also released as Loksins erum við engin in Icelandic , the band members withdrew to an abandoned lighthouse . At the time of Summer Make Good's creation , the band members lived temporarily in Berlin . In Germany some releases are distributed by the Berlin-based label Morr Music .

In addition to the albums, there were also numerous collaborations and also a soundtrack to the film Battleship Potemkin by Sergej Eisenstein and a soundtrack to the play Blái hnötturinn by Andri Snær Magnason .

In 2006 Kristín Anna left the band to concentrate on other musical projects.
