ByteFM is a German-speaking internet radio station from Hamburg . The editorial office is located in the media bunker on the Heiligengeistfeld in Hamburg-Sankt Pauli and in Berlin-Mitte .

history

ByteFM was founded by music journalist Ruben Jonas Schnell . The internet radio project started its program on January 11, 2008 and is characterized by music journalistic contributions by around 100 authors, some of whom come from the public broadcasters or as music journalists for Jazz thing , taz , Art or Le Monde, among others diplomatique work. Others are musicians, such as Frank Spilker from the band Die Sterne . Among others are the former HR3 presenters Klaus Walter ( " The ball is round ") and Volker Rebell ( " Volkers general store "), Klaus Fiehe of 1 Live ( WDR ) involved with their own broadcasts. The station has been approved as a "radio music branch program " by the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein media authority.

According to its own account, ByteFM has up to 850,000 listeners per month and does not use computer-generated music rotation . The station defines itself as a music-related “author's radio” and presents “everything that is important in modern pop music ”. Music styles such as dubstep , africanophile sounds or news from the world of songwriters should also find their place. The program schedule includes moderated programs, recordings of live concerts and exclusive mixes by local and international disc jockeys .

The station is financed by the friends of ByteFM e. V. ". Many employees work on a voluntary basis, a core team receives a fee. The program itself is ad-free. Netzradio has been cooperating with the Zeit-Online website since September 2008 . Listeners can support the program by becoming a member of the friends' association.

On June 24th, 2009 ByteFM was awarded the Grimme Online Award SPEZIAL, on September 24th, 2009 with the Hamburg Music Prize HANS as music medium of the year and with the Media Prize LeadAward . In 2014, the station won the Rocco Clein Prize for Music Journalism. In addition, ByteFM 2010 is the selected location of the " Germany - Land of Ideas " initiative under the patronage of the former Federal President Horst Köhler .

From September 16 to 25, 2010, the program was broadcast terrestrially in Hamburg on the 91.7 MHz frequency. The reason for this was the Reeperbahn Festival ; Organizationally, there was a cooperation with Alsterradio . Since September 26, 2010, ByteFM has been broadcasting terrestrial terrestrial channels in Hamburg from 7 to 10 p.m. on the FM frequency 91.7 MHz (as part of a cooperation with Alsterradio). Since October 1, 2016, ByteFM has also been broadcasting terrestrially in Berlin between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the FM frequency 91.0 MHz (as part of a cooperation with the radio station Alex Berlin) and on Sunday evenings from 8 p.m. on the French Radio station Euradionantes on the 101.3 MHz frequency in Nantes .
