Poopó ([ po.o.ˈpo ]) is a province in the eastern part of the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The Poopó province is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro department. It extends between 18 ° 15 'and 18 ° 50' south latitude and between 66 ° 19 'and 66 ° 54' west longitude .

It borders in the northeast on the province of Pantaleón Dalence , in the northwest on the province of Cercado , in the west on the province Saucarí , in the southwest on the province Sud Carangas , in the south on the province Eduardo Avaroa and in the east on the department Potosí .

The province extends over 70 kilometers in east-west and north-south directions. The central town of the province is the rural town of Poopó with 3,618 inhabitants ( 2012 census ).
