Sajama is a province in the northwestern part of the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
Sajama Province is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro Department. It lies between 17 ° 39 'and 18 ° 39' south latitude and between 67 ° 38 'and 68 ° 45' west longitude .
It borders in the northwest on the La Paz department , in the west on the Republic of Chile , in the southwest on the province of Sabaya , in the southeast on the province of Litoral , in the east on the province of Carangas and in the northeast on the province of San Pedro de Totora .
The province extends over a length of 120 kilometers in north-south direction and over 135 kilometers in east-west direction.

The population of Sajama Province has increased by about a fifth in the past two decades:

43.4 percent of the population are younger than 15 years. 90.4 percent of the population speak Aymara , 88.6 percent Spanish, and 4.2 percent Quechua . ( 2001 )
97.0 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 90.8 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 1992 ).
68.2 percent of the workforce work in agriculture, 0.3 percent in mining, 5.4 percent in industry, 26.1 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).
66.1 percent of the population are Catholic, 26.9 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
