The Municipio Curahuara de Carangas is a district in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The Municipio Curahuara de Carangas is the northern of the two Municipios of the Sajama Province . It is bordered in the northwest by the Department of La Paz , in the west by the Republic of Chile , in the south by the Municipio Turco , and in the east by the province of San Pedro de Totora .
The central place of the municipality is Curahuara de Carangas with 1,668 inhabitants (2012 census) in the northeastern part of the district.

The Municipio Curahuara de Carangas is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The region has a distinctive time-of-day climate, with temperatures fluctuating more during the day than during the year.
The mean average temperature of the region is 9 ° C, the annual precipitation is around 450 mm (see climate diagram). The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only marginally between 7 ° C in July and 11 ° C in December, the monthly precipitation is between under 10 mm in the months of June and July and close to 100 mm from December to February.
